Bringing back memories of the RG Kar protests, SSC teachers started a relay hunger strike in front of the School Service Commission (SSC) office in Salt Lake, demanding the segregation of 'eligible' and 'ineligible' candidates in SSC. A mega rally was taken out on Thursday by teachers who lost their jobs following the Supreme Court verdict, existing government school teachers, doctors, actors and the common people. This was to protest against a policeman allegedly kicking a teacher during the protest on Wednesday.
There was a scuffle between teachers and the police outside the office of the District Inspector (DI) of Schools in Kasba area in Kolkata on Wednesday as they went to submit a deputation, in which several teachers and six policemen were injured. The BJP has also protested in front of the Kasba Police Station on Thursday evening.
A senior teacher said, "After we saw the visuals where the teachers, who have faced job loss, are being kicked, I joined today's rally."
Doctors from the West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum (WBJDF), which had led the RG Kar protest, also participated in the rally organised in central Kolkata.
