An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck Jhajjar district in Haryana on Thursday morning, sending tremors across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and surrounding areas.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 9:04 am at a depth of 10 kilometres. The coordinates shared by NCS placed the epicentre at 28.63°N latitude and 76.68°E longitude.
Residents in Delhi-NCR reported strong tremors, with many stepping out of their homes and offices as a precaution. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
"EQ of M: 4.4, On: 10/07/2025 09:04:50 IST, Lat: 28.63 N, Long: 76.68 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Jhajjar, Haryana," NCS confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
This is not the first seismic event in the region this year. On February 17, a 4.0 magnitude quake hit the Delhi-NCR area at a depth of 5 km. That quake struck at 5:36 am and was also widely felt across the capital and neighbouring cities.
Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV, as classified by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority — a high damage risk zone that remains vulnerable to moderate to strong earthquakes.
Authorities have advised residents to remain calm and follow safety protocols.
