Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan’s production house, Wayfarer Films, which recently gave a superhit movie Lokah Chapter: 1 Chandra, has found itself at the centre of a casting couch controversy. A woman recently reportedly lodged a complaint alleging that she was harassed under the pretext of being offered a role in a Wayfarer Films production. The news has raised concerns within the industry, prompting the company to clarify its stance.
Dulquer's production house in trouble after woman alleges harassment
According to the complaint, reported by Asianet News, the woman was approached with a casting opportunity linked to Wayfarer Films. She specifically named Associate Director Dhinil Babu, claiming he attempted "assault" and threatened her career in the Malayalam film industry if she did not comply. The alleged incident reportedly took place near the company’s Panampilly Nagar office, where the woman was asked to meet for the casting.
The complainant submitted voice messages to the authorities as part of her formal complaint, reinforcing her allegations. The claims quickly garnered media attention, prompting Wayfarer Films to respond publicly.
Clarification from Wayfarer Films
According to the TOI report, Wayfarer Films clarified that Dhinil Babu has no connection with the production house and has never worked on any of its projects. The company stressed that the alleged harassment attempt was unauthorised and completely separate from their operations.
Following the allegations against Wayfarer Films, the team promptly filed reports with Thevara Police Station and informed the Federation of Film Employees’ Kerala Association (FEFKA) about the incident.
The production house also took the opportunity to warn aspiring actors about fraudulent casting offers. They emphasised that all legitimate casting calls from Wayfarer Films are shared exclusively through their verified social media accounts, and urged individuals to be cautious and verify opportunities before engaging.
Law enforcement authorities have acted on the complaint. Ernakulam South Police registered a case against Dhinil Babu and have initiated a formal investigation to probe the allegations. At this stage, the police are gathering evidence and reviewing statements from all parties involved.
Wayfarer Films reiterated that the company fully supports efforts to hold wrongdoers accountable but wanted to make it clear that the incident does not involve their official projects or employees. The production house expressed concern over the potential defamation that could arise from false associations and reaffirmed its commitment to safe and transparent work environments.
The controversy comes at a time when Lokah Chapter 1 is enjoying success at the box office and will soon make its digital debut.
