Zinedine Zidane true feelings on Liverpool as Man Utd manager speculation emerges

On Monday, , with former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy taking over in the interim. While Ruben Amorim is the favorite to get the job, there are a number of other names also in the frame, one of which is Zidane.

The crowded field of candidates includes ex-Barcelona boss Xavi, former England manager Gareth Southgate, and Brentford's Thomas Frank. Two other names in the frame are Julian Nagelsmann, currently managing Germany and the out of work Graham Potter, both who have been linked with the job alongside Zidane.

However, it seems unlikely the ex-Real Madrid boss will be moving to Old Trafford anytime soon, at least if his former teammate Thierry Henry's previous comments are to be believed. Speaking to CBS Sports, the former Arsenal striker believes Zidane is holding out for the France job when Didier Deschamps steps down at some point.

Henry told CBS Sports in the summer: "I’m not going to go there, I think he is waiting for the national team. So I’m not going to go there. I don’t think he will go there [Juventus]. I think he is waiting for one thing and one thing only and that’s the national team.

"You won three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, why are you going to bother with other clubs when you can have the national team? I wouldn’t."

Unfortunately for Zidane, it seems unlikely Deschamps will be leaving his post anytime soon. The France head coach has been in charge of Les Blues since 2012, having guided them to a European Championship final in 2016, a World Cup win in 2018 and another World Cup final in 2022.

And additionally, not being Ten Hag's replacement would mean Zidane gets to avoid playing a "complete" Liverpool. While the Reds stars are now older, the core of the side Zidane hailed back in 2021 prior to Liverpool facing off against Real Madrid remains. Zidane said back in 2021: "They're [Liverpool] a complete team. Some people will mention the three forwards, and it's true that they're really good, but I think they're a strong, solid unit. I'd rather focus on the team. After that, yes, the three forwards are really efficient. We'll have to be alert."
