Located five miles from is a small pub that dates back to the Victorian era which locals access via a 30-second ferry ride.
Beese's Riverside Bar sits close to a bend in the and for those wanting to check it out, a local ferry ride delivers you to the bar. The Beese's Ferry does the short hop across the width of the River Avon and costs £2 return for adults, and £1 return for children. Dogs are also able to join on the ride for free.
The bar was originally founded back in 1846 by Anne Beese to provide refreshments to travellers and navvies using the Conham Ferry. Today, the bar serves a wide range of food and drinks, and still runs the ferry from the Hanham side of the river.

The ferry itself is operated by Beese's and is available during opening hours — and providing the river conditions are okay. The trip only takes 30 seconds. In years gone by, there was a bench on the side of the river with a bell for people to ring for the ferry. However, over time it became looser and eventually was removed. Now people who queue on the bank side wave across to the bar, to flag that they wish for the ferry to come and pick them up.
If no one is in the garden, then visitors are advised to call the bar's telephone number. For visitors who are lucky enough to have their own boat, they are advised to first check with staff before mooring.
Alternatively, you can stretch out your trip to the pub by getting a longer ferry ride from Bristol city centre. One ride run by Bristol Ferry Boats is the cruise. The relaxed journey takes you to Beese's scenic gardens where you will then enjoy a cream tea. The journey takes one hour to get to Beese's, where you will then have two hours to dine. It costs around £10-£15 per person.
Bristol Packet Boat Trips also runs two different trips to Beese's. The first is a lunch trip, which takes around four hours, including a 90 minute stop for lunch at Beese's, costing £23.50 per person. Or you could hop on an evening cruise, for three hours which takes you upstream to the bar for a late afternoon beverage, for £20.25 per person.
Paul Cobb, a local guide, said in a review on "Wow, what an amazing experience! Caught the ferry boat from the city centre which was a lovely trip along the river. We were met by Beeses waiting staff at the berth and shown straight to our table. It was a cheese and wine festival day and we enjoyed the well presented cheese display. Also order some food from the menu which arrived quickly and was very good. Good value for money, will be returning."
The bar offers a wide array of pub grub including a Sunday roast from 12pm to 4pm, every Sunday.
