Thomas Frank's stance on Bryan Mbeumo speaks volumes as transfer sanctioned

Bryan Mbeumo was once backed to leave Brentford for a big Premier League club - and now he looks set to do exactly that.

Manchester United have been steadfast in their pursuit of the 25-year-old striker this summer. A third bid, believed to be £65million plus an additional £5m in performance-based incentives, has now pulled the deal over the line.

Personal terms were never an issue with the Red Devils as Mbeumo had expressed a clear preference for Old Trafford over rivals Newcastle and Tottenham.

Past words from former Bees boss Thomas Frank, who took over at Spurs earlier in the summer andmade his own play for the striker, will give Mbeumo confidence he can succeed at Man United. The Dane previously said of Mbeumo: "I'd buy him if I was at a bigger club."

Frank has been backing Mbeumo to succeed for some time. After the striker missed a chunk of action two seasons ago due to injury, his manager's remarks spoke volumes that he believes the goalscorer can cut it anywhere. Mbeumo's contributions were sorely missed at the time while he was on the treatment table.

"He [Mbeumo] was our biggest miss for four months last year, even with [Former Brentford striker, Ivan] Toney out," Frank said. "He was our key player and has added another layer this season with five goals in six games."

He continued: "That's incredible and he's creating chances. He's a top player. I'm convinced he will play for a bigger club. I'd buy him if I was at a bigger club."

Ruben Amorim will now have his new recruits signed up before he and his squad fly to the USA next week for their pre-season tour. Mbeumo joins ex-Wolves star Matheus Cunha in Manchester, who cost the club £62.5m earlier in the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Frank's squad is shaping up ahead of the new season. Mohammed Kudus has arrived at the club from West Ham and has been working alongside his new team-mates, with the likes of Kota Takai and Luke Vuskovic also bedding in.

Tottenham could also be set to splash out more big money on Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White in a £60m move. However, any move for the England star is on hold for the time being.

Spurs' pre-season is now in motion as they face Reading on Saturday and Luton Town a week later. They will then fly to Hong Kong, where they will face Arsenal.

A trip to Seoul will see them play Newcastle, which is followed by glitzy ties with Harry Kane's Bayern Munich and the UEFA Super Cup against Champions of Europe, PSG.
