People are 'today years old' after finding out hidden feature for special DIY tool

Social media is quickly becoming the go-to place for learning all sorts of new things.

Food enthusiasts were recently stunned to learn what one of the iconic Haribo sweets actually represents and spoiler alert, it's not shaped like a key. Now users on X, formerly Twitter, had their minds blown after discovering the real purpose of the hole in a 'special' key.

The revelation was made on the popular Today Years Old account which has 1million followers. The post asked: "How old were you when you discovered what this is for?" Since being uploaded, the tweet exploded with interest, clocking up a whopping 1.6million views along with 7,500 likes and swathes of comments.

So how old were you when you discovered what this is for? A video attached explains this special key is traditionally used in carpentry for drilling round shapes in wood, and the hole serves an important function. It allows for a pin to be inserted, effectively transforming the key into a compass for drawing perfect circles.

This DIY gem showcased just how handy the key can be, as someone completes what looks like the most impeccable circle you might ever see with the aid of this feature. Clearly, this was news to many, as a host of comments showed users couldn't believe they hadn't realised this before.

One person exclaimed: "Well, it was today. So that's how old I was." Another confessed: "About 15 seconds into this video." And yet another chimed in, admitting: "To be honest, today only learnt." Meanwhile, a fourth person commented: "My age as of this very moment! I never knew about this."
