Oliver Glasner insists there's more to come from Crystal Palace's answer to Erling Haaland

Oliver Glasner says Crystal Palace have yet to get the best out of Jean-Philippe Mateta this season - despite the striker’s double against Leicester last week.

The French striker was transformed after Eagles boss Glasner succeeded Roy Hodgson last term. Mateta saw out the campaign with 13 goals in 13 games and only Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals since Glasner took charge in February.

The manager credits Mateta’s turnaround with the striker’s hard graft - but admits there is more to come from the forward. Glasner said: “The most important guy is JP himself, because he's very hard-working every day, very ambitious. And he has a very good finishing quality with his left, right and his head.

“It's now to bring him into this position. This is what I think we did better last season. And this is what we have to improve.

“When we do it, we could see it against Leicester, we could see it against Norwich. But now against QPR this week, we didn't find him in the right moment. We also can miss chances, but he didn't have big chances.

“I think this is what we have to improve, that we get him more and more into the scoring positions, because then he has an unbelievable finishing quality.”
