Salford City have announced that will be standing down from his role as chief executive officer with immediate effect.
The former midfielder is a part-owner of the League Two outfit alongside other members of the Class of 92: , , and .
Butt , however, he has now outlined a desire to return to coaching. He previously worked at United within the club's academy.
He said in a club statement: “Whilst I have enjoyed the day-to-day responsibilities of the chief executive role and discovered a huge amount about the challenges an EFL club faces away from the football pitch, I have recently realised how much I miss the coaching and development of players, and this has increased my desire to get back into that side of the game.

“Over the past few months there have been several exciting opportunities put forward to me that have put my focus back on coaching and on the grass.
"That being said I have always wanted to put Salford first, and we now have experienced executives within the senior management team here which means that I can step away from my current duties without any impact on current operations and it will be very much business as usual.”
The club have confirmed that finance director Jonathan Jackson will step in as CEO on an interim basis. Butt will remain both a shareholder and a board member.
While The Class of 92 co-own the club, Gary Neville when he bought out Peter Lim, who also bought into the Ammies back in 2014.
Butt's departure comes hot on the heels of reports outlining that another key figure at the club, Chris Casper, is set to take up a new role with . The Sun claim he is set to become the Clarets' new academy manager.
Casper, who also spent time in Manchester United's academy during his playing career, has been Salford's director of football development since 2017.
