Borussia Dortmund's soccer stars were hit with fines of €100 ($110/£83) per minute for tardiness under — and the system remains in place to this day, with the financial penalty having since increased a decade or so on.

High-profile players like Karim Adeyemi, Pascal Gross and Julian Brandt could find themselves facing hefty bills if they fail to arrive on time for training sessions, physiotherapy appointments or meetings with the coaching staff. They could also face substantial fines of €3,000 (£2,499) and €5,000 (£4,166) if they are late on matchdays or miss scheduled club events.

Klopp introduced a fine system back in 2009 and according to , former midfielder and current Dortmund manager Nuri Sahin has . The financial penalties, though, have increased over the past 15 years.

  • The club appears to place a strong emphasis on etiquette at the Westfalenstadion, ensuring that certain tasks are carried out and that players interact with each other. Fines of €100 (c. $110) were imposed for anyone caught using their phone at the dining table, during physiotherapy sessions or while carrying out club duties.

Players are also expected to maintain high standards of cleanliness and appropriate dress within the club. If Dortmund's stars leave their training area in an unsatisfactory state or with discarded kit, they could face sanctions of €100, while wearing incorrect attire could cost them €250 (c. $275), reports .

Players are facing hefty fines of €2,000 ($2202/£1,666) if they fail to sign autograph cards for fans by a set deadline, and not signing shirts could cost them a €500 ($550/£416) penalty. However, missing a weigh-in session is less costly, with the offence reportedly setting back the player €250 ($275/£208).

The leaked list of fines seems to be from the 2023/24 season when Edin Terzic led the team to the Champions League final. The new manager, Sahin, is keen to maintain these standards. The German powerhouse has claimed victory in three out of their first five domestic matches and kicked off their campaign with wins against Club Brugge and Celtic.

In recent years, several lists of fines have been leaked, including Aston Villa's in 2022. Their penalties for tardiness were even harsher, with players being fined £500 (c. $650) for arriving late to training and charges of £200-per-minute (c. $260) for being late to the pitch.

Their intolerance for lateness extended to a £1,000 fine (c. $1,300) for those who didn't arrive on time for a meeting, walk or the coach on matchday. On non-matchdays, there was also a fine of £200-per-minute for being late for the coach or a meeting.

Liverpool.com says: Every club has a fine system in place but the trick is not to have to rely on it that much! Ideally, the players are policing themselves on these kinds of things with as few late and untidy members of the roster as possible.
