Israel 'red alert' as Hezbollah 'fires missiles toward Tel Aviv' with sirens heard across country

At least five rockets have been launched toward central tonight.

Sirens are once again sounding across the region where one rocket has reportedly fallen in Tel Aviv. Some of the rockets, however, have been intercepted, it is believed.

It comes after . Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which began firing rockets at Israel on October 8, 2023, in support of its ally Hamas, fired new barrages despite its recent losses.

Hamas also said it attacked forces in different parts of Gaza. The Israeli military said it launched a wave of artillery and airstrikes overnight and into Monday to thwart what it said was an imminent attack. It said it targeted Hamas launch posts and underground militant infrastructure.

The fighting on the anniversary underscored the militants’ resilience in the face of a devastating Israeli offensive that has killed about 42,000 Palestinians, according to local medical officials. It has also destroyed large areas of Gaza and displaced around 90% of its population.

Hamas-led militants blew holes in Israel’s security fence and stormed into nearby army bases and farming communities in a surprise attack one year ago, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting another 250. They are still holding about 100 captives inside Gaza, a third of whom are believed to be dead.

Meanwhile, in the UK, the Foreign Secretary said the Government was "looking very definitely" at how to deal with Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after facing pressure to proscribe it as a terrorist organisation.

Asked on news why Britain has not proscribed the group, said: "In coming into government, we are looking at state threats. We don't comment on proscription, of course.

"But can I say that we are looking very definitely at this and how - when we're talking about a state-sponsored organisation as opposed to a terrorist cell organisation - how it is best dealt with... Iran is subject to many, many sanctions under the last government. And of course, particularly in the context of their nuclear ambitions, you would expect us to be very, very clear on that issue."

Israel is now at war with Hamas in Gaza and its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon. It has also vowed to strike Iran in response to a ballistic missile attack on Israel last week.

World leaders including , and have today renewed their calls for a ceasefire in the Middle East while marking the first anniversary of the October 7 Hamas-led attacks.

One year ago, stormed communities in southern killing at least 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and seizing 251 others as hostages. Of those taken captive, 154 have been freed or rescued and 97 remain in , including 33 people believed to be dead.
