David Mitchell reveals why he doesn't like people bringing up his wife in interviews

David and Victoria Coren Mitchell, the ultimate power duo, maybe a force to reckon with, but the Peep Show comedian has revealed they're not ones for the limelight when it comes to their private life.

The celebrity couple's romance sparked back in 2007, yet it took until 2010 for their love story to truly ignite. Tying the knot in a North London ceremony in November 2012, they expanded their family with the arrival of their first child, a daughter, in May 2015, and recently welcomed their second child in October 2023.

Despite their high-profile status, in a heartfelt Radio Times interview, the 50-year-old comic shared his preference for keeping their relationship out of the public eye, confessing he wouldn't mention it unless prompted. Mitchell elaborated on his stance, stating: "The thing about it is in an interview people often ask about her [his wife]. And when I'm asked about her, I'm going to say that I love her and she's amazing. But I wouldn't have brought her up."

He continued, clarifying his perspective: "And I don't mean that disrespectfully. She's often on my mind. At the same time, I think I have a very happy marriage to a wonderful person, but I don't consider that to be of broader interest."

Last year, at the age of 52, Victoria announced her second pregnancy in a uniquely humorous fashion. She uploaded a photo clad in a red cloak on Halloween, which left many fans presuming it was part of her spooky attire, reports the Express.

The following day, she came clean with a playful announcement on social media: "Not at all; last week I had a baby and nothing currently fits me except cloaks. Luckily, Only Connect is a pre-record. Happy All Saints Day! ".

Victoria fondly reminisced about their initial encounter at a film premiere, sharing how a pal coerced her into meeting future hubby David: "He specifically said to me, 'There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you."

She laughed off the idea initially, but after some time, she realised, "I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I would probably marry him." David himself later confessed to The Guardian that the attraction was mutual and he was prepared to bide his time while she mourned her father's passing.

"I waited three years," he shared with a chuckle. "Isn't that weird? Aren't I odd? I can't explain it other than to say I couldn't do anything else. If only I'd known I just had to wait three years...I would gladly have suffered 10 times as much."
