Almost no one can divide 700 by half, add 35 and come up with the right answer

This maths has seriously stumped a few people. Trying to figure it out might send you spiralling back to memories of being stuck in a maths lesson at school, being singled out by your teacher, or poring over a test that seems impossible to answer. The good news is that no one is marking you on this brainteaser, so there's no harm in trying to flex your mathematic muscles.

Regularly undertaking or brainteasers can be a great habit to incorporate into your week, because a study has even shown that doing this kind of mental task on a daily basis can help keep some of the adverse effects of aging at arm's length - something pretty much everyone will be keen to do.

This sum was posted on TikTok by content creator , who regularly posts riddles and other challenges on his account, which boasts over a thousand followers - and he claims "only smart people" can answer the brainteaser.

Kenny challenged his viewers to "divide 700 by half, and then add 35". On the surface, this seems so simple, it might even feel like the confusing part is how people didn't get it, but if you consider the wording of the question carefully - just like you were told to do back in school when approaching an exam - you might realise that the maths brainteaser is a bit more complicated than you initially thought.

If you think you have solved this one, pop your answer in the comments, and keep reading to have your solution confirmed. However, if this one has thrown you off somewhat, you might want to read on for Kenny's clue on how to solve it.

"At first it seems confusing, but here is how it works," Kenny said, using an analogy to help anyone stumped by the sum. "Imagine for a second you had 700 slices of pizza, and if I told you to divide them by half, you'd think 350 right? Wrong! Dividing by half actually means multiplying by two. So 700 divided by half, is actually 700 times two.

"Which gives us 1400 slices of pizza, now just add 35 more slices to that yummy stack of pizza, and boom, you've got 1435 slices of delicious pizza ready to eat."
